Beautiful People: Group Show featuring Jean Paul Gaultier, Madonna, Marilyn Manson, Bjork, Dita von Teese

This week marks the opening, and the beginning of the exhibition Beautiful People, at the Cabinet des Curieux, art gallery in Paris.

This exhibition will present a broad overview of the artists who participated in the creation and evolution of a counter culture (from Madonna to Floria Sigismondi, from Jean Paul Gautier to David Lynch, …). Continue Reading

WasteLandscape, A project by Elise Morin and Clémence Eliard

“WasteLandscape” is a 500 square meters artificial undulating landscape covered by an armor of 65,000 unsold or collected CDs, which have been sorted and hand-sewn. It is well known that CDs are condemned to gradually disappear from our daily life, and to later participate in the construction of immense open-air, floating or buried toxic waste reception centers.

Made of petroleum, this reflecting slick of CDs forms a still sea of metallic dunes: the artwork’s monumental scale reveals the precious aspect of a small daily object. The project joins a global, innovative and committed approach, from its means of production until the end of its “life”.

“WasteLandscape” will be displayed in locations coherent with the stakes of the project: art role in society, raising consciousness to environmental problems through culture, alternative mode of production and valuation of district associative work and professional rehabilitation. Over the course of multiple exhibitions, “WasteLandscape” will go through quite a few transformations before being entirely recycled into polycarbonate. The roaming will allow both artists to pursue new awareness-raising activities.

The installation has been developed by Elise Morin (an artist) and Clémence Eliard (an architect) in collaboration with the 104.  The pair sewed the discs together by hand, before blanketing them over dune-like wire constructions. The current location of the exhibition is inside the Centquatre — a Parisian art space that, appropriately enough, was once a funeral home.  The building has been refurbished by atelier Novembre: Marc Iseppi & Jacques pajot.

“WasteLandscape” is at the crossroad of contemporary art, landscaping and environmental concerns.

Liya Kebede::The New Face of L’Oreal Paris

Liya Kebede, an international model, entrepreneur, actress, humanitarian and true advocate for mothers and children as well as a mother herself, today joins L’Oréal Paris.

“Liya is a very strong, inspiring, and courageous woman, with an extremely refined and enchanting beauty. Her generous commitment to the cause of women’s wellbeing is also remarkable,” says Cyril Chapuy, Global Brand President of L’Oréal Paris.

“It is important for me that I represent a brand that reflects my personality. I’m pleased to play a part in sharing the uniqueness, the charisma, and the incredible stories of women of all origins and from all regions of the world,” says Liya Kebede.

Liya Kebede’s career began when she was in high school in Addis-Adaba, Ethiopia. Scouted by a modelling agency, she left Africa for France at the age of 18, and top-level international designers like Tom Ford, then the Artistic Director for Gucci, quickly fell under her charm. Since then, her elegance and her beauty have been remarked at Fashion Weeks around the world, and she has been featured on covers of international fashion magazines (Vogue, Flair, I-D), emerging as a key figure in the industry.

Liya’s talent has also been noticed within the cinema profession. Following her appearance in The Good Shepherd in 2006, alongside Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie, Liya then played the role of model Waris Dirie in Desert Flower in 2009, film adaptation of a New York Times Best Selling Novel bearing the same name.

Liya dedicates much of her time and energy to humanitarian causes, about which she is passionate. In 2005, she was nominated as a Goodwill Ambassador for the World Health Organisation (WHO), for maternal, neonatal, and infant healthcare. Her commitment was such that, just a few months later, she established the Liya Kebede Foundation, raising money for the Durame Hospital in Awassa, Ethiopia, with the goal of providing healthcare material.

In 2007, she created her own clothing line, Lemlem, which aims to support the trade of local artisans in Africa by valorising their expert craftsmanship and create self-sustaining economies.

Liya today becomes part of the L’Oréal Paris family as a Spokeswoman, joining Ines de la Fressange, Gwen Stefani, Freida Pinto, Jane Fonda, Aimee Mullins, Jennifer Lopez, Laetitia Casta and Gerard Butler.

Honores des Pres:: Organic and Natural by Olivia Giacobetti

A Jar is a small globe of glass, which captures natural light.  Sometimes, gardners make them with pieces of glasses, to protect the growth.  Occasionally, these jars are even used to protect fruit trees from any danger.  Every jar is telling a story: experimentation, greed.  They are all protecting the freshness of the pure extracts.

Since the beginning of its launching, Honore wanted his perfumes into a special container: to protect them from any possible impacts and make their crazy powers stronger.

Olivia Giacobetti took great care, in the most bohemian improvisation, to refer to the fragments of convulsive, passionate and dynamics of nature.  Among the artists of nature, she took up the challenge of being first to create real organic perfumes, delicate and authentic, forbidding herself any ease.

Creations, with no basic identification, stylized, purified to start the freedom of the imagination.

Nu Green: Pure Eau, simple and well being

Inspired by a refreshing swim in a natural rock pool in the heart of nature, one morning of spring.  An egocentric perfume for those who keep their secrets private and resource themselves before leaving for the conquest of the city.  The ultimate in Parisian luxury, an “eau” of nothing…Leaves of green mint, herbs, Indian organic musc, tarragon, cedar wood.

The collection is available exclusively at Colette Paris and will be available worldwide in the next few months.

Arne Quinze for the new L’Eclaireur Paris

“It’s not a shop, it’s an experience. It’s not a decor and not an artwork, but it’s absolutely an expression. It will be up to the people to make it their own. My biggest joy would be if they would undergo an imaginary travel in their heads. I’ve filmed the eyes of my wife Barbara Becker which I’ve smurred in mud. You can’t see if it’s an animal or a human presence while the video is projected non stop. Behind a box of plexiglas the effect of transparancy suddenly reveals the body which can come as shock to certain viewers.” – Arne Quinze
