Pasarela del Postiguet Bridges the City-Sea Gap

Newly completed , PdP for short, provides both a physical and metaphysical bridge from the urban center of , to the sea just outside the city. PdP spans the Juan Bautista Lafora avenue, which, with its intense traffic, presents a true visual and physical barrier between the beach promenade and the city. In this way PdP becomes an important link in the life of residents of Alicante.

architects have transformed the old version (20 years old to be exact) of this traffic-transcending bridge structure into a beautiful new bridge that translates the new aesthetic language of elegance and modernity. The outdated metal structure was first completely restored and protected then wrapped into a new, continuously curving skin, which changes its section along the entire length of the PdP.

The skin consists of modules of plastic reinforced with resin and fiberglass. This material not only creates a visually astounding play of lights and reflection, but also has numerous advantages including being very light weight, easy to install and great resistance to mechanical impact and corrosion. Linear LED lighting is laid along the interior face of the modules which endows this sculptural object with a unique and dynamic identity.
