Hooker & Co. [Reclaim] Attention with STAGG

Hooker & Co. launched their STAGG table at the BRKLYN DESIGNS booth at ICFF. The table, fabricated from salvaged steel and reclaimed barn maple, is named for the Brooklyn street from which the metal was salvaged. The STAGG table is available in over 20 color bases and five reclaimed wood types and in five, six, seven and eight ft. lengths.

On one of my usual scavenger trips through Brooklyn last summer I stumbled upon an open roll gate on Stagg street. It was empty, musty and in the process of being emptied. Deep in the corner I spied a 12 ft. section of roller tables used as far back as the 50′s. I asked the older gentleman if I could have them, he obliged, and I dragged it, literally, back to my shop down the street.

Fast forward a year. I got a lead on some rock maple coming down from a barn in Thousand Island, NY. After resawing it and seeing the extent of post beetle infestation, I set it, thinking it was too far gone to use but mesmerizing at the same time. A little while later, after going back to my salvage stash for new ideas, it just hit me. I saw the frame, how it could be chopped and dropped, rewelded and powdercoated. It seemed like the perfect frame for the maple which had more character than anything I had seen of late. We injected each hole with epoxy using a syringe and then bleached the maple twice.
