Chau Har Lee

Shoe design at its finest

This collection was inspired by Luigi Colani and Pierre Cardin – their optimism, delight in materials and their futuristic vision. Chau admires the commitment to the pure idea in their work and how the object becomes almost fetishlike. In this way the work as sculptural, aesthetic pieces and functional footwear.

Chau has combined traditional shoe making techniques with new technologies. Thinking three-dimensionally and building up from the last using rapid-prototyping and laser-cutting to create architectural structures. He introduced materials such as steel, acrylic and wood to contrast with the softer, stretched and molded leather. Creating a tension between masculinity and femininity in the designs as well as making objects that have strength and power but are still intensely desirable are key goals.
