Michael Sontag – Spring/Summer 2012

Michael Sontag is one of Germany’s most promising young designers. Michael perceives his work in fashion as an ongoing and evolving development. Each season inspires another season. His approach to fashion is one of clarity and precision.

Michael strives to blur the usual notions of fashion by choosing not to categorize his work by trend, season or collection.

Michael’s Spring/Summer 2012 line is a refreshing take on the technique of draping, which is one of Michael’s strengths. Often times the designs are formed not on paper but on a mannequin during the draping process. Michael Sontag is one of Germany’s most promising designers; the work in his Spring/Summer 2012 designs justifies this.

Roca London Gallery

Zaha Hadid Architects and Roca announce the opening of the Roca London Gallery. The design takes inspiration from the power of water as a transforming element to carve a sequence of dynamic, porous spaces for the 1100m2 gallery. The flowing white central axis of the gallery leads to a number of smaller, semi-enclosed spaces in concrete. Fissures and slices in the walls give permeability throughout the gallery. This design theme of water extends to the façade, which appears as a set of ripples in movement across the exterior. The interior features audio-visual equipment allowing visitors to discover the company’s history, its landmark achievements and the values on which all of Roca’s work is based: the commitment to sustainability and particularly to innovation, design, wellness and saving water. Designed to be much more than just a display space, the Roca London Gallery will host exhibitions, meetings, presentations, seminars and debates.

Bicycle Art – Kirkiakos Iosifidis

Kirkiakos Iosifidis presents Bike Art – Bicycles in Art Around the World. There is an element of fanaticism in bicycle culture rarely seen among the varied forms of locomotion. A love affair of sorts develops between rider and bike, with all the constituent parts: obsession, devotion and longing. In extreme cases, hospitalization is required – among the more restrained, bicycle becomes muse, inspiring great works of art in a variety of media, all in an attempt to capture the spirit of the infatuation.

Bike Art pays homage to our two-wheeled friend, presenting works created on walls, canvases, paper, pedestals, bike frames, skin and clothing by an international team of artists including Taliah Lempert, Janet Bike Girl, Mona Caron, Boris Indrikov, Dzine, Matt W. Moore, Andy Singer, Mike Giant, David Gerstein, Mark Grieve & Ilana Spector, “BIKE 2.0,” “Azor,” “I Bike,” Kevin Cyr, Olek, Duane Flatmo, and more. In addition, the bicycle receives a complete makeover as designers compete to create the most original ride, whether re-envisioning the age-old form in its entirety or creating custom pieces for private consumption. A voyeuristic showcase of the lesser-known aspects of the culture – including festivals, performing arts and good works – rounds out this must-have volume.

Clear’s Drink of the Month: Battistella

Battistella is an Il Prosecco sparkling wine and it is Clear’s drink of the month. The selection of refined Prosecco D.O.C. grapes produces a fine sparkling wine, thus expressing the vines particularity: straw yellow in color with vague green highlights; the aroma is that of a typical and unmistakable sour apple, with hints of wild fruit that fades into intense floral notes; the taste is soft, velvety and fresh at the same time, with an explosion of fine and lasting bubbles that enhances the excellent combination of flavors.

Battistella is best enjoyed within a year of bottling, so don’t wait too long to pop open a bottle, celebrate and enjoy.
