ISSEVER BAHRI’s focuses on classic craftsmanship and modern design; merging these two ideas is what gives ISSEVER BAHRI its innovative and distinctive look.
ISSEVER BAHRI is based in Berlin, Germany and was founded in 2010. The founders are Derya Issever and Cimen Bachri. Derya and Cimen are graduates of the University of Applied Sciences, HTW, in Berlin. Both Cimen and Derya have worked for several labels throughout Berlin and London, such as Michael Michalsky, Alexander McQueen and Harriet’s Muse. Their home countries, Greece and Turkey, also inspire them; this inspiration has a large impact on their design techniques and aesthetics.

ISSEVER BAHRI’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection is a strong testament to their experimental and eclectic designs.

The First Ever Smart Watch Comes to America

Italian design and technology, multi-tasking, an extremely high resolution display with an original multitouch touch screen on curved surface and performances never before seen on such a small object. i’mWatch, the first wrist smart watch compatible and able to synchronize with Android smart phones and also with iPhones, will not go unnoticed by tech lovers.

A device that does not replace the smart phones but that makes its handling possible directly from a wristwatch through Bluetooth communication and by using the new “Personal Hotspot” function that Apple has made available in the latest iOS 4.3 version.

The two young entrepreneurs from Vicenza, Bertolini and Zanella, have succeeded in making two great competitors like Apple and Android interact and the i’m Watch is making its American debut.

Functions

• visualise the watch both in the analogue and digital format

• receive calls showing name and number of caller

• call by entering the number or by using the address book

• use speakerphone

• receive text messages with preview

• receive emails showing the sender and the subject

• check the weather forecast of your city

• receive notifications from Facebook™, Twitter™, etc.

• download all the music you want from i’music

• download apps from i’m store

• view the photo and image gallery

• view stock market data and receive notifications

The Campbell Sports Center at Columbia University celebrated its groundbreaking on October 15th. Designed by Steven Holl Architects, the Campbell Sports Center will form an inviting new gateway to the Baker Athletics Complex, the primary athletics facility for the University’s outdoor sports program.

Located on the corner of West 218th street and Broadway, the Sports Center aims at serving the mind, the body and the mind/body. The design concept “points on the ground, lines in space”—like field play diagrams used for football, soccer, baseball—develops from point foundations on the sloping site. Just as points and lines in diagrams yield the physical push and pull on the field, the building’s elevations push and pull in space. External stairs, which serve as “lines in space,” and terraces extend the field play onto and into the building and give views from the upper levels over the Baker Athletics Complex and Manhattan with the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings in the distance. At night the building is up-lit with glowing light on its Columbia-blue aluminum soffits.

Steven Holl states, “We are honored to collaborate with Dianne Murphy and Columbia Facilities in creating this new state of the art athletics facility. Its inviting architecture indicates the invigorating presence and future of intercollegiate athletics at Columbia University.”

The Campbell Sports Center, a five-story, 48,000 square foot facility, will house strength and conditioning spaces, offices for varsity sports, an auditorium, a hospitality suite and student-athlete study rooms. The project, led by Steven Holl and senior partner Chris McVoy, is scheduled to open in fall 2012.

Verena Schreppel specializes in jewelry and product design with a poetic, conceptual approach and a fine sense for structures. She began the development of her unique jewelry designs during her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Hamburg in the Studio of Glen Oliver Löw and at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid at the faculty of fine arts. Her unique aesthetic and her talent for innovative design can be seen in her latest jewelry collections.

Ripprings is a collection of silver rings, each one cast from a one-off piece of stitched fabric. Leaving the white cast skin of the silver perfects the transposition and causes confusion. Through wear the cast skin changes slightly giving it an individual shining silver patina.

The Shot collection shows the counter points of beauty and transience, life and death. The bullet hole as a trace in fine metal draws the balance and the discrepancy of these two poles. This design also brings about the question of unequal circumstances; the basic principle of jewelry, the status symbol, that is elevating but at the same time humiliating.

Zopf is a collection of fine braided jewelry in white or dark silver cast or gold, which slightly wears to an individual patina.

The Hercules Knot collection was inspired by the strength of a Hercules Knot itself. Fascinated by the power of the form and the infinity of connection found in the ancient Greeks’ Hercules Knot Verena designed a necklace, belt and bracelet that provide this same power to its owner. All parts of the collection are made of textile covered tubes and 925 sterling silver. The knot in the tubes is used to change size by pulling or loosening. The stiffness of the material keeps the form and regulates the size for its owner. The acute silver angle of the belt can be opened by a bayonet nut connector.

The Take and Give project are rings and studs made of ebony, maple wood, gold plated silver and bills. The raw shape of the continents and the material speaks for itself, reflecting the exchange; back then and today.

Visit www.verenaschreppel.com for more details about these and other collections; and to learn more about Verena Schreppel herself.

L’Essence – Balenciaga Home Fragrance

Balenciaga has created a home fragrance: “L’Essence” the candle, inspired by the latest perfume.

More than a candle, it creates an atmosphere of its own, an ambience characterized by the fragrant interplay of leaves, delicate flowers and soft mosses. The Balenciaga “L’Essence” candle sets the scene for a beautiful nightfall, when nature exhales all its rarest scents.

This sophisticated experience, with a sensual violet note, continues the history of Balenciaga perfumes and the flower chosen by Nicolas Ghesquière as the embodiment of his fragrant story.

“L’Essence”… a voluptuous invitation for the senses.

Available now at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Balenciaga boutiques and at all specialty stores starting in November 2011.

BANKSY – Myths and Legends, the perfect holiday gift book celebrating the art and tall tales surrounding the iconic street artist Banksy.
No single living artist has created as many myths, rumors and legends as Banksy. In his home town of Bristol almost everyone seems to have a Banksy story. Many of the tales in this book are from Bristol and some are from further afield. What they share is that they are all told with the wide-eyed wonder, which Banksy inspires. Compiled between 2009 and 2011, some of these stories are quite old and have been told so many times they have become the stuff of legend, while others are more questionable and best described as myths. Some are laugh out loud bollocks and some are simply gossip. You be the judge. These stories illustrate the incredible audacity, originality and sheer bloody mindedness of Banksy, who obviously will be best remembered for his art and exposing the hypocrisy and idiocy of our modern lives. The myths will be viewed as a distraction to some or part of the appeal for others. One thing is certain, the art and the myths are both larger than life and stick two fingers up at conformity. This book is a celebration of that anarchic, rebellious spirit. It’s listed at www.amazon.com for a mere $9.95, a great deal on a book images by a one of a kind artist.
