HSBC Private Bank confirms its commitment to design by launching. The Connection Collection, a private collection of limited edition design to grow out of HSBC Private Bank commissions. The Connection Collection will debut with new work by Arik Levy, to be created in an edition of two. Levy’s design will be launched at Design Miami/ 2009 in the HSBC Private Bank Designers’ Lounge, a dedicated area for VIPs at the pre-eminent international fair for limited edition design.

The Connection Collection takes inspiration from HSBC Private Bank’s truly international philosophy to open doors and make connections for clients around the world. HSBC Private Bank has been supporting design since 2006 when it became principal sponsor and partner of Design Miami/. The Connection Collection therefore also marks a natural evolution of the bank’s commitment to facilitating connections and nurturing talent in the design world. This year HSBC Private Bank has established a special partnership with Swarovski Crystal Palace to create the Designers’ lounge. The internationally acclaimed architect Greg Lynn will be creating an installation for Swarovski Crystal Palace that will effectively form a ‘room’ and entrance to the Designers’ Lounge. For HSBC Private Bank, Lynn will be creating the Designers’ Lounge and the setting to display Arik Levy’s commission. For the first commission of The Connection Collection, Arik Levy was asked to create something that expressed the notion of how people connect. The result is a new, modular shelving system composed from wood and laminated steel and accompanying seating arrangement which can be split into two elements. This is an extension of Levy’s acclaimed Rock series featuring multifaceted rock-like structures.

HSBC Private Bank has been the principal partner of Design Miami/ since December 2006, where it has played an essential role in the creative programming of the world’s pre-eminent forum for limited edition design. As part of its partnership with Design Miami/, HSBC Private Bank has worked with designers each year to create a VIP lounge at both the Basel and Miami events. A highlight of these carefully curated spaces was the collaboration with the Campana Brothers in December 2008, who in the same year received Design Miami/s Designer of the Year Award.
